View Brazil in a larger map

I always check the All About Appliqué Flickr Group to see what other appliqué fans are adding there. Last week I saw that some entries in a different language… I was intrigued! I used Google Translate and plugged in the url, guessing that it was Portuguese, and I was right! I was treated to some delightful entries from Divânia. One of them looked like back-basting.

Divânia’s Flickr entry, when translated, came out “Footsteps appliqué.” How delightful! I guess the basting stitches do look like footsteps. “Go slowly dropping the dots of the outline, while applying dots invisible to the application in its place,” the caption reads. Exactly!

Be sure to check in on the Flickr group yourself to see and translate all of Divânia’s lovely entries. While you’re there you’ll also see a couple of wonderful projects that another Brazilian appliqué enthusiast, Mariana, made using designs from my Easy Appliqué Blocks.

The winner of Machine Appliqué for the Terrified Quilter is Jeanne Harrington of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Congratulations Jeanne!

roseJust by coincidence (I promise) Jeanne and I had been corresponding about a tea and coffee themed quilt-along that she and some of her internet friends are starting up for 2010, using my teapot patterns among others. Jeanne describes it this way:

We are a tea/coffee sipping, applique stitching, fabric and craft swapping, can’t stop visiting long enough to get some quilting done, funny story telling, embellishing, cat/dog loving, inspiration/sharing, out-to-have-some-fun group. Phew! The main goal is to get to know your tea buddies while sewing a tea/coffee related craft. We also post all kinds of other pictures as we share our lives with each other. Anyone is welcome to join, only rule is to engage in topic discussions and post one tea/coffee related craft/block a month.

Here’s the link to the 2010 Tea/Coffee Quilt Along on Flickr, in case you’d like to join in or just enjoy the sights.

Jeanne asked if she and her buddies could also post pictures of their projects in my All About Appliqué Flickr group. Of course! When I upgraded my blog a few months ago, my Flickr sidebar logo went away and I hadn’t reconstructed it, but now it’s back. My Flickr group is for anyone who appliqués, or appreciates appliqué! Post pictures of your projects there and tell us a little something about them. Or, just enjoy the eye candy. Read all about this group in my earlier post.

Until next time,
Kay

For a long while I’ve been pondering ways in which to invite you readers to participate in the blog more. To that end, I started a Flickr group.

flickr_logo_gammav5989914.gifThis public group is for appliqué enthusiasts, to enjoy some eye candy and show off your projects! It’s called, naturally, All About Appliqué. I put in some entries just to get the ball rolling.

Please go and share photos of your appliqué projects there! Any stage of completion is great… don’t feel like you have to wait until every stitch is in. And please tell us a little bit about your project in the description. Be sure to put in the design source.

Here’s the link to the group: All About Appliqué Flickr Group

Note: I’m new to Flickr myself. Hopefully a lot of you are old hands at it!
It not, I have learned the following:

• Anyone can view and enjoy this group’s photos.

• Flickr is part of Yahoo. To post a photo you’ll need a Yahoo account.

• To add a photo to the group, you’ll need to join the group. Click “join” then log in with your Yahoo account.

• You’ll need to upload at least five photos before your new account will be reviewed and approved. Until then, your photos won’t show up in the group. Here’s the FAQ page at Flickr that explains that. If you just want to add one photo to the All About Appliqué group, then add four more random photos not in the group to your photostream to trigger the review process. Then it’ll be a couple days.

Can’t wait to see your projects!
